Tamiflu
Tamiflu is a new medication used to cure INFLUENZA - the flu. Tamiflu
(Oseltamivir) attacks the flu at its source and stops it from spreading
further inside the body. So, it acts as the predator that paralyses or
blocks the actions of viruses in your body.
Tamiflu (Oseltamivir) belongs to the neuraminidase inhibitors class of
drugs, which works by stopping the growth and spread of the flu virus
in your body. Oseltamivir helps to reduce the time you have flu symptoms
such as sore throat, nasal congestion, headache, muscle aches, or things
like cough and chills.
USES
Tamiflu is basically used to cure illness that has been caused due to
influenza virus and that too in patients who have had symptoms for less
than 2 days. Oseltamivir is also used to prevent infection with the influenza
virus.
HOW TO TAKE
Oseltamivir comes in the form of capsules that are supposed to be taken
by mouth. Its dose is generally: Twice a day, followed till the 5th day.
Tamiflu may be taken with or without food, although it has been known
to cause an upset in stomach; which you can of course lessen taking oseltamivir
with food. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully,
and ask your doctor pharmacist to explain any part that you do not understand.
Take oseltamamivir exactly as directed.
Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by
your doctor or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter
or prescription medicines without talking with your doctor. This includes
any herbal preparations or dietary supplements.
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Every medicine around this world have one or the other side effects, but
many people don't get encountered with them by bypassing them by no, or
minor side effects. But: Prevention is better than cure, so rush to your
doctor or pharmacist if any of the following occurs: nausea, dizziness,
headache, vomiting, diarrhea, insomnia, fatigue, cold and cough or any
other respiratory symptoms.
Immediately stop taking oseltamivir and seek emergency medical attention
if you experience an allergic reaction like difficulty in breathing; closing
of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face). Even if you notice
effects that are not listed here, don't hesitate to contact your doctor
or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS
Before using Tamiflu, tell your health care provider about any of the
following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding;
if you are taking any prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine,
herbal preparation, or dietary supplement; if you have any other medical
condition. Also the safety and effectiveness of oseltamivir have not been
established for children younger than 18 years of age in the treatment
of the influenza virus and in children younger than 13 years of age for
the prevention of infection with the influenza virus.
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Do not take Tamiflu if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine;
you are currently taking or have taken a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor
within the last 14 days. No other drug has been reported to interact significantly
with Tamiflu. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any other
prescription or over-the-counter medicines with oseltamivir.
NOTES

MISSED DOSE
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have
passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose
to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed,
contact your doctor or pharmacist.
STORAGE
Always Store oseltamivir capsules at room temperature away from moisture
and heat. Store the suspension in the refrigerator. |
